Sahan Abayarathna Photo

Sahan Abayarathna

Managing Partner

Sahan is a multi-strategy credit investor and advisor with a deeper bench in a multitude of asset classes and industries.

At his prior role at Highland Capital, he invested in opportunities ranging from private credit & opportunistic investing to traditional middle-market private equity. He also served as interim president of the firm’s privately held BDC, overseeing private credit and syndicated loan investing, regulatory compliance, and cash management and accounting – while stabilizing the platform during a liquidity crisis and re-establishing the underwriting framework and investment committee process.

He has held leadership roles as a member of Steering and ad hoc Noteholder / Lender committees in major restructurings (Fieldwood Energy, Peabody Energy, FirstEnergy Solutions) and served on the boards of CCS Medical and TerreStar.

His prior experience includes alternative investing and leveraged finance at BBVA, Pine River Capital, Simmons & Co. (now Piper Sandler), and Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Sahan earned a BBA in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin, with an Emerging Scholars distinction in Chemistry.

Frustrated by inefficiencies in middle- and lower-middle-market private credit, he founded Sigiriya Advisors to help Sponsors and Management Teams raise debt and mezzanine capital – on time, in full, and on the best possible terms.
